Kambo Ceremonies

(See below for information on KAMBO and please email Caleb@ReEvolutionHealingArts.com to apply to work with us.)

Kari and Caleb have been working with and serving Kambo since 2016, and studying plant medicines for over a decade. As an integrative wellness practitioners, Kari and Caleb offer Kambo with special care and as part of a holistic framework.

Combined with the power of preparation, intention, and lifestyle changes, Kambo can help create a turning point for personal transformation. Basic lifestyle actions such as movement, breathwork, nutrition, recognition of personal patterns and cultural/family influences cannot be overlooked. With awareness of these energetic aspects, Kambo can help clear the slate for new beginnings. Sessions with Kambo can be part of preparation for plant medicine journeys or as integration and somatic release following various therapies involving identifying and moving though shadow aspects. Kambo can also serve as a fresh energetic start, releasing tension and trauma from the body, creating a more receptive state for healing, as well as taking fresh action in our lives. Kari and Caleb work with the blessing of leaders of the Matses tribe in Peru, having trained and studied under the lineage of multiple medicine men and woman and formally certified through the Matses-tribe affiliated organization Kambo international.

Kambo is the excretion from the giant Amazonian monkey tree frog phyllomedusa bicolor. Kambo has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous peoples of the Amazon to heal a vast range of illnesses, and to impart strength and energy to the body and spirit. Kambo is an extremely powerful purifying agent which detoxifies the body, mind and spirit.

Traditionally the indigenous peoples have used kambo to  purify the body of panema, which can be viewed as negative energy or bad luck. In the indigenous worldview, panema is the energy which is behind illness, weaknesses and psychospiritual blocks which inhibit us from advancing in life. By purging the panema, illnesses can be healed and blockages can be removed.

The secretion of Kambo is known to hold hundreds of bio-active peptides that have been scientifically studied for their immense healing properties. These healing properties include anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antimicrobial and have potent analgesic, anti-inflammatory and.

Kambo primarily works as a mover of stagnant energies starting at the lymphatic and cellular levels. In this way, kambo is similar to regular yoga practice in that circulation is increased, stagnant energies are released, and the body is cleansed and retuned at the level of the fascia, lymph, organs, and endocrine systems.

Kambo is often referred to as the “vaccine of the forest”, and is immune boosting as well as immune-modulating. As a non-psychoactive medicine, Kambo represents a RETURN to more original states. Kambo is used to clear dissonant vibrations of all categories, to reset physical and mental chemistry and allow for fresh perspectives. Effect of harmful drugs and other toxic behaviors which disrupt dopamine, serotonin, endorphin and oxytocin balances can be cleared with kambo, which is also recognized to balance the pituitary gland and central nervous system.

Kambo is not for everyone and is not recommend for people with certain contraindications, conditions and those on certain pharmaceuticals. However, most people can safely work with Kambo and through preparation and guidance, ALL of our past participants have experienced safe and beneficial sessions. Kambo is legal and has been shown to be 100% non-toxic. By working with respect and in a traditional way, all participants are safe and precautions are taken to ensure safety with water consumption and non-interaction with certain substances.

Preparation

To apply to work with kambo, Kari and Caleb require a brief introductory call and a transparent communication of all existing health conditions and medications. We also find it paramount to work within the framework of an indigenous understanding of this medicine – using it as traditionally as possible, to clear ‘panema’ as well as to provide strength for showing up to life as connected peaceful warriors. We will make sure each participant knows what to expect, how to prepare, and will guide the proper dosage “as we go” based on each individuals unique interaction of the medicine, to provide opportunity for a manageable yet powerful experience.

How to prepare for your session:

In the week leading up to ceremony, begin to bring intuitive awareness to eating clean yet nourishing food. We recommend to avoid processed, overly spicey, non-organic, acid-inducing, and overly oily foods. Hydrate well in the days leading up to ceremony but don’t go to extremes. Be mindful of highly dehydrating activities like excessive sauna, hot tubs, etc, the day before. Avoid all recreational drugs for at least 3 days before, including cannabis for best results with exception in some ceremonial circumstances. Please check with us for any and all recreational and especially pharmaceutical drugs. In general most herbs and vitamins are okay but avoid the day of ceremony and consider easing off in the days prior. Day of kambo: Fasting: solid food - 10-12 hours / liquid food 6 hours. Generally this means no breakfast whatsoever. Coconut water is helpful in the morning and adds electrolytes in our experience and is fine up until ceremony. Hydrate just enough to maintain moderate hydration – we will drink a generous amount of water before and during ceremony so please do not over hydrate which can be dangerous and unnecessary. In the 60 min before arrival, reduce water intake to sipping as needed. Bring comfortable clothes and a change of clothes, a blanket or yoga mat, water bottle, a few organic snacks to share, and optional ceremonial objects to add to a collective or personal alter.

What to expect during your session: Kambo is generally uncomfortable but is incredibly rewarding, and is a short process of 20 to 40 min depending on how long you want to work with the medicine. Kambo brings circulation and its bioactive peptides cleanse and remove stagnant energies and toxins which are generally removed via purging. This is generally via vomiting and can include “bottom purging” – we will provide access to a bathroom. In the event of walking to the bathroom, please walk very slowly and bring your bucket, asking for help as needed. Remember the Kambo itself is non-toxic and only pre-existing toxins are being removed. The medicine itself is extremely anti-inflammatory, and helps rebalance hormones and brain chemistry. Kambo is non-psychoactive but is physically altering, especially via vasodilation, so expect changes in heart rate especially in the first 3-5 minutes. Kambo is traditionally applied through tiny surface level burns or “gates” removing only the top layer of skin which is wiped away with a paper towel. This opens just the lymphatic layer with no blood contacted. Don’t be intimidated by this as the discomfort only last a second. These gates will leave minor scars but tend to fade almost completely within 6 months-2 years. We advocate for traditional placements on the outer upper arms, inner lower legs, or chest, avoiding sensitive or bony areas except for special circumstances. While the experience can be challenging, we encourage participants to tap into: Intentions, for our own health and our ability to show up for our relations; Prayer; Communication with our own nervous system/bodies via tapping, affirmations etc; Communication with the sprit of Kampum aka the spirit of the frog doctor/shaman; gratitude for the tribes providing this inclusion and initiation, and encouraging ourselves and the other participants vocally and energetically is encouraged. Viva Kambo! We are available to assist with anything needed and have seen it all, please feel comfortable and advocate for your needs. Conscious deep breathing and mindfully drinking water, along with an upright posture will greatly support your process. Arrive with energy, courage and openness.

Recommendations following ceremony:

*Avoid hot tubs and long baths which can irritate the gates, which will be generally be sealed with Sangre de Drago, and Amazonian tree resin we will clean the gates with afterward.

*Abstain from all sexual activity at least day of recommended 3 days afterward.

*No sweets

*Mindful socialization, minimal media consumption, increase nature and meditation time.

*Take a shower shortly after session

*Rest at least 10 min immediately after session, and make space for extra rest day off.

*Avoid spicey foods and heavy meats

*Avoid cannabis

*gentle movement like walking afternoon after ceremony, moderate movement walking or yoga day after ceremony

The Ceremony

We will open with introductions, optional shared intentions, a brief question and answer session, followed by opening pryaers with optional hape (medicinal tobacco/plant snuff from Brazil) ceremony. We will use various smudges including sage before and during ceremony.

The most important aspect of the ceremony, besides certain dietary preparations, is to show up in a state of respect and gratitude for the people, lineages, and ecosystem from which the medicine comes and for the sacred medicine itself. The power of our own intention and willingness to “meet the medicine” is equally important as the medicine itself. We primarily work with the energy of reverent celebration of the entire tradition, as instead of acting as the healer, We support each participant in their own healing process, encouraging them to work with the master frog healer. Through encouragement and support, we focus on celebrating the strength and courage it takes to show up, receive and release. When we purge in ceremony, we are not getting sick we are getting well, and we celebrate that moment which benefits ourselves and “all our relations”. We work with the power or prayer, calling in the support of the four directions, our mother earth, the lineages and the intelligent frog spirit. We celebrate and honor each other’s healing in group ceremonies and mark an important right of passage together. We also aim to improve ourselves in a way so that the tribes, lands, and animals graciously sharing their medicines can be more respected and preserved. Part of your contribution will be used for our travels toward ongoing studies which are also a source of support for the preservation of these medicines and the peoples who steward them. Individual ceremonies are available, however small group sessions can be extra powerful with the support of collective healing and community and are generally recommended.

Integration

All sessions include at least one integration call with optional breathwork embodiment session, and access to continued support and guidance from Kari and Caleb. Kambo traditionally is used to increase strength – particularly for hunting and fertility. Yoga is a great integration for kambo, which can bring enormous benefits to physical vitality, which we can assist with in building a practice. Kari and Caleb will bring various ceremonial items, herbs, etc. sourced locally and from the Amazon Jungle available for purchase. This can be a good time to stock up on hape, sananga and other tools to assist in integration. Feel free to make special requests beforehand. Kari and Caleb are herbalists as well and can provide natural supplements to renourish which we recommend after your cleansing process.

Multiple Sessions and Pairing with Plant Medicines

Speak with Caleb and Kari for access to various other ongoing medicine ceremonies with which kambo can be combined.
